As a corporate entity, we feel indebted to the society for its support over these years. We are a part of it and thus responsible for its welfare as well. Over decades we have been engaging in several activities for improving the society in different capacities. Our initiatives have always been for constructing strong and sustainable communities across different regions. As we empower individuals, we create non-destructive atoms of development, that goes on to create an invincible nation.
We have a life that demands more from us, always. However, the competition and unsatiating demand for success have been creeping to children's lives as well. They need more playgrounds and colour for their imaginations. A few years ago, the group constructed a children's park at Vivekananda Byam Samiti, Behrampore, West Bengal, for the children there.
Even though we try to impose a taboo on menstruation, menstrual health and hygiene remain a priority that we cannot ignore. It's a challenge for girls and women alike, to take care of themselves and get basic access to sanitary pads. Life in towns cities and metros could be a little easier but in far-fetched areas, it's still a pathetic challenge. Our girls deserve much better. Last year, the group tried to break the shackles by distributing sanitary napkins to girls and women in Bankdaha village, under Bankura District, West Bengal. The event was organized at the premises of Bankdaha Primary School and several women joined us at the event.
Blood is a life saviour, especially when an individual doesn't have the required amount of blood in his or her body. It's noble, that's what we have heard since our childhood. The group collected some in 2018, by collaborating with Bankura Sammilani Medical College & Hospital. We organized a blood donation camp inside the premises of our plant in Mejia, Bankura, West Bengal. Besides other donors, 120 of our employees donated their blood at the event and encourage others for the noble cause.
Nature strikes at its will and we hardly have any control over it. So, we proactively ensure to stand by the people affected by natural calamities. 2017 tested West Bengal with several natural calamities. Many of the districts were badly affected by heavy flood and the misery shook all human souls. We reached out to our fellow brothers and sisters at those flood-hit areas with basic amenities and food essentials. We were glad to bring them some relief and comfort them at such a testing time.
Life is comfortable in developed areas but in areas like Jungle Mahal, it is very challenging. The area is considered as one of the most backward areas in the state and the weather is equally extreme. While the Summers are blazing, Winters are bone-chilling. We tried to bring a bit of relief to the adorable and humble people of Jungle Mahal in 2018, by distributing fans in Purba and Paschim Medinipur districts of the state.
One of the common causes of death, in the remote regions, is lack of medical amenities like an ambulance. Even if you have a functional hospital, these regions do not enough ambulances to carry a patient to the hospital in time. The group addressed this concern by collaborating with Help Age India and provided Mobile Health Care Unit. It was an attempt to 'reach the unreached' and 'healthcare at your doorstep.
Reflecting the ethos of "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan" the company pledged to keep the city clean. The organization thus came up the idea of installing waste-bins on almost every footpath in and around the Salt Lake City with thought-provoking messages, inspiring and encouraging everyone to keep the roads, lanes and thus the city, cleaner than it has been.
